Robocalls are automated phone calls with a recorded message instead of a live person. In a lot of cases, these calls are illegal and have dangerous intentions.
How are robocalls created?
Making robocalls is easier than you might think. The spammer uses a cheap digital voice service to make a recording – you’ve probably gotten a few of these before. They may say that someone has been trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty, your social security number, or a number of other issues they think you’ll want to take action on. You may even get one that says you’ll be arrested if you don’t comply.
It’s not difficult for the spammer to compile a list of phone numbers. Then software is used to dial a ton of numbers in a short amount of time so they can’t be identified by carriers or blocked by callers. The ultimate goal is to get the victim to answer the phone so they can steal personal information regarding their identity, credit cards, or bank accounts.

They’ve also created thousands of special lines created solely to identify and observe illegal robocall campaigns. Once a number is identified participating in this activity, Verizon works with law enforcement to take action.
They also have a tool called Call Filter that will help you further monitor the calls you’re receiving. This free app allows you to screen incoming calls, and an upgraded version, Call Filter Plus, gives you total spam and robocall control.
