Our upcoming Community Event is Rescues Rock! This event is all about helping local animal rescue organizations. Participating Wireless Zone® stores across the country will be hosting a supply drive in-store to collect items like gently used towels and blankets, cat and dog toys, treats, collars and leashes, pet beds, etc. to donate to a nonprofit rescue organization in their town.
Adoption Events
Select stores across the country will also be partnering with a local animal rescue organization and hosting an in-store pet adoption event on Saturday, May 13 at 1PM local time.

Meet Our Rescues
Change a Life Dog Rescue
East Haddam, CT
Change a Life Dog Rescue is a foster-based all-breed rescue that specializes in working and herding dogs. Their mission is to save dogs that are in life threatening situations, like an overcrowded shelter, abuse, or neglect. They believe that they are “not a rescue,” but a group of dedicated and committed volunteers that brings dogs and people together as families.
Change a Life recently rescued four dogs from a packed shelter in Atlanta and would use the grant funds to care for them. They took in Starlight, a 9-month-old German Shepherd mix with a broken pelvis and upper respiratory infection; Ducky, a 2-year-old lab mix that is very sick; Karma, a 7-year-old pitbull/lab mix that was so sick that she couldn’t stand up; and Fox, a ~7-year-old husky/lab mix that has heartworms, wounds around his nose and ears, an upper respiratory infection, and some dental issues. These issues will cost over $10,000, and some of these dogs would not have survived in their previous shelter.

Open Door Animal Sanctuary
House Springs, MO
Open Door Animal Sanctuary is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in their area. Their mission is to provide homeless cats and dogs with the highest quality of life and a second chance to find a forever family. They provide hope, help, and healing to thousands of stray animals. They take in and adopt out over 1,000 animals each year.
They would use the grant funds to help purchase an X-ray machine for their vet clinic. Having an X-ray machine on-site would save them time and money since they currently have staff members taking their rescues into a vet clinic for the procedure. The organization is also caring for two animals that have extensive injuries that both happened within the past month: one puppy that survived a house fire and a cat that had a bullet lodged in his leg and needed amputation. So far, they have spent over $8,000 caring for the puppy and the surgery for the cat alone was also thousands of dollars.

Pet Rescue, Inc.
Harrison, NY
Pet Rescue, Inc.’s mission is to save homeless, abandoned, and neglected dogs and cats and find them caring, responsible homes. Pet Rescue is a no-kill shelter and volunteer-based organization with their own facility that has an on-site clinic, a kennel, and a dedicated space for adult cats (the “Kitty Cottage”). They take joy in finding their animals good, loving homes.
They would use the grant funds to help treat their animals with serious illnesses. They currently have two dogs with significant heart disease, one with cancer, one with inflammatory bowel disease, and some dogs and cats with serious dental and tick-borne diseases. Since Pet Rescue is a volunteer-based organization with no administrative costs, all donations go directly to taking care of animals. Last year, their medical expenses were over $150,000.

Adopt, Don’t Shop
When you opt to adopt a cat or dog from an animal rescue organization instead of purchasing from a pet store or breeder, you are saving a life! On average, 1.5 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized every single year in the United States. Rescuing an animal from a shelter not only saves that animal, but it also frees up space for another animal that needs help. Plus, owning a pet comes with plenty of positive benefits for you, like improving your mental and physical wellbeing. Pet ownership can increase opportunities to get outside, exercise, and socialize – it has also been linked with lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. On top of those physical benefits, pets can be a great way to help manage loneliness and depression.
Thank you for helping us help animals! We hope to see you at one of our pet adoption events on Saturday, May 13.
